• Any other PPE required for onsite policies (e.g. high-visibility clothing)

The isolation of the machine must be done in accordance with Vekta isolation procedure. This is broken up into two sections:

• Electrical isolation
• Pneumatic isolation

• Electrical hazards: These are present throughout the machine, and operators are to ensure they are fully aware of potential risk areas. High voltage components are located in the electrical panels, especially the double door panel on the left of the machine. Only authorised personnel are to open and inspect inside the electrical panels.

• Mechanical hazards: The machine has moving parts that can move unexpectedly and may have sufficient force in motion to cause injury to people. Operators are to be aware when these parts are in use. The main mechanical hazards include but are not limited to:

  • Entanglements

    • AIT transfer leg chains and drive shaft
    • AIT rollers and drive chain
    • Conveyor belts and shafts
    • Saw axis timing belts (Y‑axis and Z‑axis, left and right feeders, follower)

  • Crushing

    • Automatic Infeed Table
    • Outfeed Kickoff Table
    • Feeder clamp rollers

  • Cutting or Puncturing

    • Saw blade

  • Impact

    • OFK kickoff arm

    • Follower

      CAUTIONThe follower is a highly exposed moving part, so pay extra attention to it.

  • Slips, Trips and Falls on ground obstructions

    • Electrical cables
    • Hydraulic hoses
    • Hydraulic oil leaks
    • Timber

  • Ejections

    • Timber thrown out from saw chamber
    • Loose high speed components (saw blade)

  • Dust

    • Ejected from feeders and from gaps in the door seal while cutting
    • Kicked up with air while cleaning

  • Noise

    • From cutting timber
    • From dust extractor

• Light and buzzer pulse on and off at one second intervals: a loss of air pressure to the machine has been detected.
• Light and buzzer pulse for two seconds: a rehoming cycle will start with the follower enabled.
• Light and buzzer pulse for half a second: the saw is ready for a new board and this will be automatically fed in by the AIT.

• If E‑stop lanyards are fitted, they will be located around the AIT and/or the OFK.
• The E‑stop button is located on the operator console.

Before operating the dust extractor, do the following:

1. Make sure the dust extractor is clear to operate and in good working order.
2. Warn other personnel that the dust extractor is about to be switched on.
3. Make sure the E‑stop button on the dust extractor control panel is released.

To operate the dust extractor, do one of the following:

• Press the green button on the dust extractor control panel. Press the red button to stop.

• Press in the Manual Mode window. Press again to stop.

  Notes:This button can only be used if the saw is homed.It will only stop the dust extractor after a delay of one minute.It will also operate the extended waste conveyor.

Site-specific safety features are available and can be arranged to be added to the machine. Please contact Vekta Automation for more information if some are fitted to your machine. These can include:

• Light curtains
• Non-standard lanyards
• Feeder cover interlock switches
